Child Welfare and Attendance
The Office of Child Welfare and Attendance provides specialized student support services to students, families and school site personnel in the area of compliance with compulsory education laws, student admission and enrollment procedures, student discipline procedures, transfers to alternative programs, compulsory attendance, and school climate and safety. Child Welfare and Attendance strives to assist with complicated situations involving student attendance, student discipline, campus safety, and programs for high-risk youth.
Specific attention is provided to address external and internal factors that interfere with students reaching their full potential.
CWA support covers prevention and intervention, and is designed to:
- Promote healthy development and prevent problems
- Respond early when problems are identified
- Provide greater support for those whose serious problems require more intensive assistance
Children have the right to feel safe at school. At UUSD, we are committed to ensuring that all our students learn in a safe, respectful environment.
Bullying and Internet Safety
Bullying is one of the most serious and pervasive problems facing schools across America. Bullying happens when a vulnerable person is repeatedly hurt, threatened, or tormented by another. Bullying can happen face-to-face, but it often occurs online where the bully feels untouchable. Victims of bullying often experience low self-esteem, depression, and even suicidal thoughts. Upland schools do not tolerate bullying in any form: harassment, cyber bullying, or physical bullying. If you feel you or someone you know is being bullied, please speak up! For more information, please view the Bullying Presentation on the side of this page.
